Omnia Introduces Combination HD Radio + FM Analog Processor
Omnia-6hdfm Processes HD Radio and Conventional FM Audio Simultaneously
5 April 2003, Las Vegas, Nevada
FM broadcasters upgrading their radio stations to HD Radio capability can now enjoy seamless, synchronized audio processing for both HD Radio and FM Analog signals, thanks to the newest addition to the Omnia-6 line of broadcast audio processors: Omnia-6hdfm.
Premiering at the NAB Convention in Las Vegas, Omnia-6hdfm employs 96-kHz, 24-bit sampling – the highest sampling rate of any broadcast processor – for precision audio processing with maximum output fidelity. This superior sampling rate makes it possible for Omnia-6hdfm to reproduce the entire range of frequencies that IBOC is capable of — up to 20 kHz.
Omnia-6hdfm is a dual-output, combination IBOC + conventional FM audio processor which permits simultaneous processing of audio for both digital and analog audio chains, ensuring seamless transitions between the digital and analog channels. A unique split processing structure routes audio from the mixer section to separate, concurrent output stages for conventional FM and DAB. The IBOC section features user-selectable frequency response, up to 20 kHz. A specially designed Look-Ahead final limiter conditions audio for the bit-reduced encoders employed in IBOC systems, while the Conventional FM signal receives distortion-controlled final limiting with pre-emphasis and 15kHz filtering.
An upgrade package is available to give combined-processing capability to clients who already own an Omnia-6fm. The upgrade, which includes new processing software and a back panel with added AES connections, is designed for quick field installation; pricing is $980.00 USD.
Other Omnia-6hdfm features include a 6-band limiter, 5 AGC bands with adjustable AGC crossovers and wideband AGC; twin full-color active-matrix displays with integrated Dorrough™ Loudness Meter make it possible to immediately see the effect of processing adjustments. Remote control is accomplished via Ethernet, serial or modem connection; an exclusive plug-in software architecture facilitates fast, simple software updates.
Omnia enjoys a rich legacy of involvement with IBOC. In the US, formal testing with USA Digital Radio and Lucent Digital Radio began in 1998; today, Omnia processors are key components of iBiquity IBOC tests conducted with broadcasters throughout the US. In Europe and Asia, many high profile Eurekaequipped stations and network broadcasters use Omnia.
Omnia audio processors are preferred by top radio stations around the world, and are the choice of more than half of the Top 100-rated FM radio stationsin the U.S., including WLTW-FM/New York, America’s highest rated radio station, and KIIS-FM/Los Angeles, America’s highest billing radio station. Internationally, Omnia processors are relied upon by Virgin Radio, NRJ, The BBC, Deutsche Telekom, YLE, RTL, Skyrock and many other leading broadcasters.
Suggested retail price for Omnia-6hdfm is $12,570. Omnia-6HDFM is on display in the Telos Systems / Omnia Audio booth, #N2618, at the NAB Convention in Las Vegas, April 5 – 10; visit www.omniaaudio.com for more information.
