Pittsburgh Penguins get Xstream with Zephyr

31 October 2011, Cleveland Ohio, USA

The Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team, members of the Atlantic Division of the National Hockey League’s Eastern Conference, are taking their show on the road for the 2011-2012 season courtesy of a new Telos Zephyr Xstream ISDN codec.

Coverage of the Penguins’ season via Zephyr Xstream began on October 6th with an on-the-road 4-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

Observes Telos marketing manager Clark Novak, "Few sports are more punishing than professional hockey, and few codecs can stand up to the beating life on the road delivers. So it’s natural that the Penguins organization would pick a Zephyr Xstream for their remote kit — it’s the only ISDN codec that thrives on the same kind of punishment that their players do."

Telos pioneered the pairing of ISDN and MPEG encoding in the original Zephyr introduced in 1993. Since then, Zephyr codecs have become broadcasters’ first choice for delivery of broadcast-quality audio over ISDN and IP connections.

Zephyr is the world’s most popular family of ISDN codecs. Along with MPEG AAC, Zephyr Xstream includes industry-standard MPEG Layer 3 and Layer 2 coding, and AAC-LD coding for high quality, low delay bi-directional remotes; features include MP3 streaming and decoding via IP connections, and Ethernet remote control. Additionally, Zephyr Xstream can receive POTS calls from the Zephyr Xport POTS + ISDN codec, using aacPlus coding for FM-quality audio.

Zephyr Xstream comes in three flavors: rack-mount studio versions with or without built-in 4-fader stereo DSP mixer, and a ruggedized road-ready version with mixer, integrated tilt-up stand, and two local mixes with selectable source controls for monitoring local and return audio. Prices start as low as $4,895 US MSRP.
