University of Sunderland outfits Spark FM with Axia

The University of Sunderland, one of the UK’s most respected technical universities, is outfitting their popular youth-oriented radio outlet with Axia consoles and an Axia Livewire routing network.
Sunderland’s 107 Spark FM (sparksunderland.com) serves North East England with programming tailored to teens and young adults; Fred Marden, formerly of The Eagle and BBC Surrey, plays a lead role in the station's operation.
The University of Sunderland's Axia purchase, made through Broadcast Bionics (based in West Sussex, England), includes eight- and 20-position Element 2.0 mixing consoles, PowerStation integrated console engines, a variety of Axia Audio Nodes for routing and audio I/O, and the Axia IP-Audio Driver, Windows®-based software that allows an audio delivery PC to output and record multiple simultaneous channels of broadcast-quality audio via direct Ethernet connection.
Axia allows broadcasters to quickly and easily build audio networks using switched Ethernet to connect a few rooms, or an entire facility. Axia networks have a total system capacity of more than 10,000 audio streams, and can carry hundreds of digital stereo channels (plus machine logic and PAD) over a single CAT-6 cable, eliminating much of the cost normally associated with wiring labor and infrastructure. Axia radio consoles are a hit, with installations in over 2,000 studios worldwide.
