50,000 WATT AM Sounds Like A Million With Omnia ONE

Dallas-market station KTNO had a problem.

Although they were an AM station running 50,000 watts, they didn’t sound like it. The signal was strong throughout the market and far beyond, but the station suffered from a lack of “dial presence.” To add to their problem, much of the music used on the station was dubbed with overemphasized bass in a misguided attempt to kick up the punch of the audio.

Omnia ONE to the rescue!

Chief Engineer Mike Price of Mortenson Broadcasting, Dallas, picks up the story: “I noticed an immediate correction of the over-emphasized bottom end in the music tracks, as well as a brightening of the overall sound on both speech and music. But the main thing that I noticed was the marked increase in loudness.”

When asked how he chose Omnia ONE in the first place, Mike continued: “I knew of the brand and the reputation, so I went with my instincts. Turned out to be the right decision!”

Mike also pointed out that one of the Mortenson’s other Dallas stations, KGGR-AM, just signed on a low power FM translator, which has deployed an Omnia ONE FM. “The audio on the 250-watt FM translator sounds every bit as loud and clean as the full power FMs in the market. Actually, better than some.”

Utilizing the latest advances in DSP hardware and manufacturing techniques, the Omnia.ONE FM puts a full four-band FM processor into a single-rack-space package. Omnia.ONE FM features the same processing topology that made the original Omnia FM famous; a wide-band AGC / leveler, followed by a four-band AGC, and separate (not integrated) four-band limiter section utilizing a shared precision crossover.

Rounding out the processing is Omnia's advanced pre-emphasized final limiter / clipper…the same used in the industry-standard Omnia 6EX —technology that really separates Omnia from the “copycat” competition. Also included is a newly-designed digital stereo generator with SCA convenience input and 19kHz pilot output for synchronization to external RDS generators.

But, with all of this, we have to warn you: prepare for sticker shock. The good kind! Omnia ONE carries a US MSRP of only $3295.00. With this kind of price and performance, it’s no wonder Omnia ONE is the best-selling audio processor ever, with more than 5,000 units now on the air around the world.
