CLEVELAND, OH – 05 October 2016 The Telos Alliance®—leader in broadcast technology and parent company to Telos®, Omnia®, Axia®, 25-Seven®, Linear Acoustic®, and Minnetonka™—announced today that CEO and founder of Omnia Audio Frank Foti will be delivering a paper entitled "µMPX: Network FM-Stereo Composite Connectivity" at the Ohio Broadcast Engineering Conference, October 27, 2016, 11-11:30am, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. "When we introduced MPX over AES at NAB 2013, the conversation began about what it would take to provide an MPX connection via IP. In simple terms, carrying the MPX signal over a network is easy to do. The conundrum became, how much data bandwidth is required? Simple math tells us, there is a need for a data connection of more than 2MB/s in order to accomplish this," says Foti. "The challenge is not so much the technical aspects, but financial and facility considerations. Data links of this size are expensive, and not commonly available to be used for a Studio-to-Transmitter (STL) link." This presentation will offer an explanation of the Telos Alliance's new µMPX technology, which is an innovative method where the MPX signal can be carried over a data link of only 320 kbps. Using a newly designed codec, this connection does not yield audible artifacts, maintains precision peak control, and yields a transparent MPX signal for transmission. Discussion will detail additional aspects for the MPX signal such as point-to-multipoint operations. 2016 OBEC attendees are invited to come learn about this new codec and its potential applications in this informative session.
