Omnia Toolvox is "Swiss Army Knife" of Microphone Processing

31 August 1999, Cleveland, OH USA

Microphone processors traditionally have offered broadcasters either too little or too much: too little flexibility to achieve the desired results, or too much heavy processing that fights other processors in the station’s audio chain.

Omnia ToolVox, the new all-digital microphone processor from Telos Systems / Cutting Edge, fixes this problem forever. Omnia ToolVox is the only mic processor in the world specifically tailored for the best possible interaction with on-air processors, delivering a smooth, powerful voice presence for your air talent.

“ToolVox is like a Swiss Army knife for your voice chain,” says Cutting Edge president Frank Foti. “It’s everything your air talent needs to sound their very best, all in one convenient and powerful package!”

Omnia engineers put their years of DSP experience to work designing a microphone processor with specialized AGC/compressor ratios and time constants. These special algorithms let ToolVox complement, rather than combat, on-air processing systems.

Other examples of this synergistic design philosophy include a de-esser that uses advanced FFT analysis techniques to prevent the on-air processor from creating harsh sibilant splatter; and built-in phase rotators which allow broadcasters to turn off phase rotation in their main processor, thus preserving music quality while reducing voice clipping.

Other essential features built into Omnia ToolVox include TrueVerb from Waves, allowing state-of-the art reverb to be applied only to the talent’s voice; a referencequality microphone preamplifier with high-end features such as 24-bit A/D converters and phantom power; and stereo analog and AES/EBU outputs.

The user interface for ToolVox is designed to be both user-friendly and user-secure. Custom presets for on-air talent can be stored for instant retrieval via the front panel, and security features are included to prevent unauthorized tampering. TCP/IP and RS-232 remote control inputs facilitate operation by a computer or automation system, and a front panel connection allows control via laptop computer.
