Omnia’s Frank Foti To Address New York AES/SBE Meeting June 14
May 24, 2011
"Getting The Levels Right, Reducing Processing Annoyance, Adding Quality, and How It Really Can Be 1 Louder!" is how Omnia Audio President Frank Foti describes the synopsis of a talk to be given at the New York AES Section and SBE Chapter 15 meeting, Tuesday June 14 in the Radio City Room at the Microsoft Conference Center. Microsoft Corporation, 1290 Avenue of the Americas, 6th Floor. Hours will be from 6 to 9 pm. You don’t have to be a member to attend, but you must RSVP at http://june2011nyaessbe.eventbrite.com/
As Frank says: “A great audio processing system centers on a key concept: Getting the levels 'right', all the time. Level controlling algorithms fight this challenge, as content waveforms vary significantly. The end result is usually processors that get the level right kinda-sorta some of the time. Discussion will center on new developments which generate level control that gets it right all of the time”.
Additionally, the single most subliminal annoyance to audio processing, of all forms, is intermodulation that's induced by the control function. This can be found in compressors, limiters, and clipping systems. Further discussion will cover new development that reduces, and in some case eliminates processor induced annoyance.
Finally, Frank will give attendees a peek into recent research regarding an FM stereo system, employed in conventional FM broadcasting, which yields increased loudness legally. It also can potentially reduce signal induced multipath by employing single sideband suppressed carrier (SSBSC) as the transmission means for the L-R content. Frank Foti is the Founder and President of Omnia Audio, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. He leads a talented team that researches, designs, and develops audio processing for every form of broadcasting: FM/AM, HD Radio, DAB/DRM, Music Mastering, and webcasting.
He is a frequent presenter at NAB, AES, SBE, state broadcast conventions and written articles for all of the major broadcast industry trade publications.
