Satcom Resources Becomes Axia integrator

IP-Audio Networks go global via satellite links

1 February 2006, Cleveland, OH USA

Satcom Resources, LLC., America's leading independent integrator and distributor of VSAT and conventional satellite communications networks, and Axia Audio, the digital audio networking division of Telos Systems, today announced that the two firms have entered into a comprehensive partnership.

The Axia IP-Audio system enables broadcasters to build routing systems and audio networks of any size using switched Ethernet to connect a few rooms — or an entire facility. Axia audio networks can carry hundreds of digital stereo audio channels over standard CAT-6 cables or fiber links, eliminating much of the cost and complexity normally associated with wiring labor and infrastructure.

Satcom Resources is presently integrating the entire Axia Audio line into its online catalog, including the new "Element" modular control surfaces and associated Axia audio, router selector and GPIO nodes.

"The combination of Satcom Resources' well known low-cost, low-latency Internet Protocol Ethernet-enabled satellite networking equipment with Axia Audio's IP-Audio products gives broadcasters the ability to access any audio source in their operation with any control surface, even those located off-site, using a conventional Ethernet architecture — and even if studio or program origination points are on opposite sides of the world," said Bill Sepmeier, Satcom Resources CTO.

"The beauty of our product lines' blend is that program material never leaves the IP format, and can be used in real time throughout a worldwide consolidated broadcast operation, no matter where that operation reaches. From a cruise liner in Rio to studios in New York, Axia IP-Audio platforms and Satcom Resources 'IP latency-free' satellite solutions make for seamless routing and use of the same digital format anywhere on Earth, with no decoding, re-coding or trans-coding, all while carrying regular office IP/ WAN data and 'net traffic!"

"Axia clients already love the fact that they can route audio, machine logic and program-associated data anywhere in their facilities, even across campus, using standard Ethernet," says Axia Audio president Michael Dosch. "We think they'll be even more excited to know that they can extend their networks across entire continents, using the satellite connectivity solutions available from Satcom. This opens up a whole new world of remote possibilities."
